Bengaluru: Be ready to pay hefty fines for traffic violations
Bengaluru: The city police will soon enforce the new Motor Vehicles Act 2016 (Amendment Bill), which aims to impose hefty fines on traffic violators.
Addressing a 30-member delegation of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerceon Monday, City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood hinted that legislation is likely to be implemented anytime over the next two months.
“This is the only way we can bring in some sense of traffic discipline among vehicle users. Since the fine is substantial, vehicle users will think twice before violating traffic rules. This will reduce accidents and ease traffic movement in the city,” he said. The Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha on April 10, 2017, is pending final clearance before the Rajya Sabha.
Ahead of implementing the new legislation, the city police are gearing up to install close to 1,000 CCTV cameras across the city. “Since the fine amount will be hefty, we need to ensure that the traffic violators are convinced that they violated traffic rules. We will hand them challans along with photos and other micro-details of violations,” Mr Sood said.
