Vijayawada to lose open space
Vijayawada: Swarajya Maidan, popularly known as PWD ground, the only open space in the heart of the city for public utility, will be no more and will be soon confined to memory.
The AP government has decided to construct the biggest city square commercial building complex in the open space in Vijayawada city.
A high power committee meeting, under the supervision of CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved the project and designs, made by GICC of China. The CM has signed on a file related to construction of City Square on Sunday.
Shopping complexes and parking areas would be built, according to Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Sufficient underground parking place would be provided according to the present design.
Officials said nearly double space could be available from the new buildings for utilising for tourism purpose. The construction would be completed phasewise and the state would also get in-come from this project.
