Tirupati: Major fire in plastic factory, no loss of life, Rs 1 crore lost
Nellore: A major fire in a plastic manufacturing factory in an industrial estate between Tirupati and Renigunta on Sunday afternoon destroyed property worth Rs 1 crore. The reason for the fire is not yet known.
The blaze was noticed at 3 pm and the fire services personnel struggled for hours to put it out. Huge clouds of smoke engulfed the area which hampered the fire personnel's work. The fire is spreading to the nearby factories. Fire service staff were trying to put out the fire and avoiding it from spreading to the nearby factories.
Officials deployed two fire engines, water tankers and 15 tractor loads of water to fight the flames. Police also rushed to the spot and are supervising the works.
Plastic scrap is converted into powder and made into chips at the factory. The fire mishap took place when the staff had gone for lunch. They noticed the fire when they returned.
As water in the two fire engines was exhausted, water from tankers was summoned. However, by the time the water tankers reached the spot, fire spread to the nearby factory that manufacture paint barrels.
The workers in that factory made efforts to put out the fire. The electricity department turned off the power supply to prevent further damage.
DSP Nanjundappa was supervising the operations. There are around 70 factories in the entire industrial estate and people are worried about the fate of other factories if the fire continues to spread without any respite. No loss of life has been reported.
