More institutions to begin classes in 2016-17

Centre allotted 17 institutes after split.

Hyderabad: Students from Andhra Pradesh have reasons to rejoice with government expediting steps to commence academic activities in various national institutions that were allotted to the residuary state by Government of India.

Already eight institutions like IIT, IIM, and NIT etc. are entering into their second year after having started activities in 2015-16.

It may be mentioned here that Government of India allotted 17 institutions in all to Andhra Pradesh in the last two years.

IIT-Tirupati (Rs 700 crore budget), IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Tirupati (Rs 1,030 crore), IIM Visakhapatnam (Rs 900 crore budget), NIT, Tadepalligudem (Rs 400 crore), IIIT-Kurnool (Rs 400 crore), Agriculture University, Guntur (Rs 1,500 crore) budget, Central Institute of Pla stic Engineering and Technology, Vijayawada and National Institute of Design commenced clas-ses from last academic year.

Locations have been identified for building infrastructure, but these institutions kicked-off their activities from makeshift arrangements and nearby colleges. National Institute of Disaster Management, Gannavaram is also joining this list after authorities announcing its inauguration from July 2016 onwards.

The other reputed institutions that are awaiting start includes Tribal University, (Vizianagaram), Central University (Anantapur), AIIMS (Mangalagiri, Guntur), Petroleum and Energy University (Vi-sakhapatnam), Indian Institute of Foreign Tra-de and Indian Institute of Packaging (Kakinada SEZ), National Institute of Refinery (Machilipat-nam) and Institute of Culinary Skills (Tir-upati).

Government is taking steps to start some of these institutions from the coming academic ye-ar, Sumita Dawra, Prin-cipal Secretary (Higher Education) said.

“Institutions such as AIIMS (Rs 1,700 crore budget) need to be started only after the complete infrastructure is in place. There is no such problem for some of the other institutions.

District Collectors were given orders to acquire the land and complete the formalities at the earliest,” she said.
