Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh pens book on AP division
Hyderabad: Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh, who played a key role in shaping the AP Bifurcation Act, is set to publish a book on the subject. Titled Old History-New Geography-Bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, the book will hit the markets on June 15, the month in which the undivided state was bifurcated two years ago.
“I have been planning to release this for quite some time. There will be no formal launch, it will be available at all leading book stores on June 15,’’ Mr Jairam said on Sunday.
He refused to provide a few excerpts of the book but promised it would be interesting for the readers to know the inside happenings during the period.
The book cover sports two photographs: one shows the Telangana region Congress MPs led by Ponnam Prabhakar and others trying to lift Mr Ramesh in joy; the other has Samaikyandhra supporters led by present YSR Congress MLA Chevireddy Bhaskara Reddy trying to obstruct him when he visited Tirupati on February 27, 2014, after Parliament passed the bifurcation Bill.
Mr Ramesh said, “My book provides the context, text and subtext for bifurcation, which continues to be contentious and controversial.” Mr Ramesh was a key member of the group of ministers set up by UPA in October 2013 to prepare legislation for the bifurcation of undivided AP. Till February 2014, when the Bill got approval from Parliament, he became the prime target for those seeking bifurcation and those opposing it.
