BBMP beware, Siddaramaiah's coming!

The CM will embark on city rounds on May 24 to see how prepared Bengaluru city is for the rains.

Bengaluru: With civic agencies including BBMP facing a barrage of criticism for being unprepared to face the monsoon, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to do a check himself. The CM will embark on city rounds on May 24 to see how prepared Bengaluru city is for the rains.

Sources close to the CM told Deccan Chronicle that his office was waiting for a list of areas selected by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) before Mr Siddaramaiah visits them on Tuesday. The list is likely to reach the CM's office on Monday.

With the monsoon expected during the first or second week of next month, this is being done to avoid criticism from opposition parties regarding the state government and BBMP's unpreparedness for the rains.

In view of the CM's visit, BBMP officers are busy cleaning drains, filling potholes and clearing debris across the city. It seems BBMP officials will prepare a list of places where they have cleared the mess. Already, last week's rain had damaged several roads and BBMP is working overnight to fix them.

Monitoring cell
A Monsoon Monitoring Cell has been established by the government to rapidly address various issues faced by citizens during monsoons. Dr Rathan Kelkar, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for e-Governance, in a press release said that to make the task force more accessible to citizens, the government has created an exclusive Twitter handle for the Monsoon Monitoring Cell, where citizens can tweet their concerns.

The Cell can be reached at @mmcblr on twitter. Citizens can tweet issues relating to the monsoons to this handle. Also, they can use the hash tag #Ready4MonsoonBengaluru2016.
