Supreme Court is dissatisfied with AP’s reply on teacher vacancies

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday expressed disgust over the Andhra Pradesh government’s inaction on filling up of teacher posts over the last several years.

Reacting strongly to the delay in the recruitment of teachers, the apex court directed the state government to submit the status report on the recruitment process.

The court was dealing with a batch of petitions, which sought directions to the Telangana and AP governments for filling up more than 20,000 teacher posts, for which recruitments were not held for several years.

Acting on the petition, the court directed the Telangana and AP governments to submit the status report by the second week of July.

Earlier, the court directed both state governments to fill all vacancies by the end of February of this year.

Counsel for Telangana state said the government had completed the recruitment process and submitted that the appointment orders were not issued due to cases in the High Court.

Counsel also said that a few posts were not filled due to the pending cases in the High Court.

The court, however, was not satisfied with the submissions of AP government’s counsel about the DSC examination.

The court reminded counsel about the AP government’s earlier submission to complete the recruitment process by the end of February.

The court posted the case to the second week of July.
