Poll violence rocks Odisha, eleven injured

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik and his supporters have sustained grievous injuries after allegedly being attacked by some miscreants at Bhandaripada Chhak under Ramchandrapur Police limits in Ghasipura constituency of Keonjhar.

The injured OPCC chief and 10 Congress workers were were rushed to Anandapur hospital for treatment.

Reports said vehicles of OPCC president, par-ty observer and MLA candidate from Sanakhemundi constituency, Ramesh Jena, were ransacked by the miscreants, informed sources.

The OPCC president alleged involvement of the ruling-BJD in the attack. “They attacked our party workers with sharp weapons. Later, they fired bullets and pelted stones at our vehicles,” said Mr Patnaik.

BJD is yet to respond on the allegations levelled by the OPCC chief.

Later, a team of Congress led by Shivananda Ray met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) alleging that state minister Badri Patra and his sons orchestrated the attack.

The police on Monday arrested eight persons in connection with the attack. In another incident, miscreants hurled bombs at the vehicle of BJP MLA candidate from Bhubaneswar-Central.
