Kozhikode ready for smooth polling

2,177 polling booths set up in 1,093 locations.

Kozhikode: The election officials expect smooth polling in Kozhikode district where a total of 2,177 polling booths have been set up in 1,093 locations with 24-hour video surveillance network.

All the polling materials were handed over to the officials at the polling stations on Monday.

Over two lakh new voters will exercise their franchise this time. In 2016, there were a total of 23,11,404 voters while the number is 26,01,605 now.

A total of 951 booths have been categorised as sensitive and vulnerable in Maoist-hit regions.

Out of the 13,15,355 voters in Kozhikode constituency, 6,39,112 are men, 6,76,228 women and 15 transgenders. In Vadakara, there are 12,86,250 voters - 6,17,009 men, 6,69,223 women and 18 transgenders.

Nadapuram has the highest number of voters (2,03,245), while the lowest is in Vadakara (1,58,665). In the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, Kunnamangalam has the highest number of voters (2,18,753) and Kozhikode South the lowest (1,49,337).

There are 13 women- friendly model polling booths to be managed by women polling officers and having feeding rooms, said district collector Sambasiva Rao.

There are also 182 model polling stations with facilities to greet the voters and having temporary creches and feeding rooms.
