Khammam: The four zilla parishad territorial constituencies in Khammam district have become most important as the ZP chairperson post has been reserved for scheduled castes in the general category.
The four ZPTCs like Madhira and Bonakal in Madhira Assembly segment were reserved for SC general category and Vemsoor in Sattupalli Assembly segment and Wyra ZPTCs in Wyra Assembly segment for SC women category. There is every probability that the candidate, who is elected from these four ZPTCs will be elected as the ZP chairperson. It means any candidate who was elected from these ZPTCs can get the ZP chairperson post as it was reserved for SC general category.
In this scenario, the defeated candidates of TRS in the recent Assembly polls are eyeing the ZP chairperson’s post, which is considered as being more powerful than being the MLA.
Lingala Kamalraj, who lost from Madhira as the TRS candidate in the Assembly polls is first on the row. The candidate who wants to contest in the ZPTC should have his vote in zilla parishad territorial constituency limits and not in the municipal area. The person who had a vote in ZP territorial constituency can contest in any ZPTC of Khammam district.
Because of it, Kamalraj changed his vote to Kostala village in Wyra mandal, which is his native village. He is showing interest in contesting from Madhira rural ZPTC and has expressed his willingness to the party leaders in the district.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had assured recently that defeated party candidates would be given a chance in ZP chairperson posts.
Another TRS leader B. Ramoorthy, who contested from TRS in 2014 elections, is also vying for the post and he is looking at Bonakal ZPTC ticket.
Pidamarthi Ravi, who lost in Sattupalli and Matta Dayanand, who tried for the Sattupalli ticket are also making their efforts. But, they have no SC reserved ZPTCs to contest in Sattupalli segment as Vemsoor was reserved for SC women. They have to contest in the general ZPTC and win there to compete.
As far as Kamalraj is concerned, he is considering Madhira ZPTC as a safe one.
