HD Kumaraswamy requests MEA to trace missing Kannadigas

Sources said a body was found and identification process was on.

Bengaluru: A dozen persons from Karnataka, all in Sri Lanka on Sunday, are said to be missing for the last 24 hours, since the blasts.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said the Chief Secretary was in constant touch with Indian high commissioner in Sri Lanka to know about the whereabouts of the missing kannadigas. The high commissioner office had promised to render all help to the people in need.

Meanwhile, former PM H D Deve Gowda spoke to external affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and requested her to speak to her Sri Lankan counterpart to take steps to trace out the missing Kannadigas. She also promised all possible help from her office to provide all assistance to Kannadigas struck in the island nation.

Sources said a body was found and identification process was on. A team of tourists from Karnataka to kandy were returning to Bengaluru by tomorrow.

A member of state legislative Council, Mr C R Manohar was said to be in Sri Lanka when the bomb went off at several places across the nation. A bomb exploded near a hotel in which he had stayed, and returned after the incident.
