File case against rescue home, says Telangana High Court

Married girl sent to state home instead of in-laws’ place.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the Kacheguda police to register a case against officials working at the state-run rescue home in Kacheguda for illtreating and physically abusing a 19-year-old girl, who was admitted there by the Falaknuma police, despite the court’s order to hand the girl over to her husband’s family.

On Monday, the girl approached the court to state that she was beaten up at the state home and her gold bangles stolen by the employees.

On April 18, the court had directed the Falaknuma police to hand over the girl, Noor Jasim, are to her mother-in-law Rizwana Begum. This was after the latter filed a habeas corpus petition before the court stating that her son Mohammed Ateeq was detained by the Falaknuma police on a complaint that he had kidnapped the girl. The court had examined the petition and given directions to release Ateeq from Chanchalguda Central Prison with immediate effect and return the girl to her marital home.

The police, however, admitted the girl to the state home on the day the court told them to hand her over to her mother-in-law to live with her husband.

Four days later, Noor filed a petition saying she was beaten up at the state home and was ill-treated. She also alleged that the employees took away four gold bangles and also said that the police failed to follow the directions of the court. An enraged High Court bench comprising acting Chief Justice Raghavendra S. Chauhan and A. Rajashekar Reddy then summoned the superintendent of the state home in the afternoon. The bench questioned the superintendent about the allegation of the bangles and beating the girl, both of which the official denied. Nevertheless, the court directed the Kacheguda police to register a case based on the statement given by the girl, and to take necessary action.

The Falaknuma police, who appeared before the bench, said that they had followed the orders of a lower court and admitted the girl to the rescue home as she did not want to go back to her mother.
