Central tribal varsity of Andhra Pradesh to offer certificate courses
Visakhapatnam: The Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh will offer two post-graduation courses, two integrated programmes, three PG diploma courses and a diploma course from the academic year 2019-20. Apart from these, it is also proposed to start one-month certificate courses in making bricks, tiles, mango jelly and jute products.
This was announced by G. Nageswara Rao, Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, which acts as a mentor university.
After completion of the certificate courses, the students will be supported financially for setting up their own manufacturing units. The varsity will tie up with Mudra Banks and local banks to provide loans, he informed.
With the aim to impart employability skills to the students, the V-C discussed these courses with AP State Skill Development Corpo-ration managing director and CEO Dr Arja Srikanth, who agreed to give financial assistance for the accommodation of the candidates pursuing the courses.
As the main campus at Relli village in Kothavalasa mandal of Vizianagaram district will be functional by 2020-21, the classes will be held on the campus at Praveenya Institute of Marine Engineering and Maritime Studies at Modavalasa in Vizianagaram district for the first academic year. The transit campus also has the hostel facility.
The tribal varsity would initially offer two PG courses – M.Sc chemistry with medicinal chemistry as specialisation and Master of social work, as well as two integrated courses having an exit option – B Sc (MPC) along with M.Sc chemistry with medicinal chemistry as specialisation and BBA (tourism) along with MBA (tourism and hospitality management).
The university has invited online applications from students for admission to these programmes through an entrance exam conducted by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak. The last date for receiving applications is May 16, and the entrance exam will be held on June 1-2, and classes will commence from July 3.
It also seeks admissions into PG diploma in computer applications, cyber security and tourism and hospitality management, besides a diploma in horticulture. A committee of the mentor university is preparing a DPR for the courses, infra and manpower required at the 526-acre main campus.
