Anantapur: ACB seizes over Rs 3 crore from sub-registrar
Anantapur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials raided the house of Anantapur urban sub-registrar D. Lakshmi Narayana and that of his close relatives in various parts and seized assets worth Rs 3 crore on Monday.
The ACB sleuths said that they received huge number of complaints against the sub-registrar over illicit properties and high rate of corruption at the office. The ACB teams, led by Anantapur DSP Surendra Babu, conducted raids simultaneously at six places — sub-registrar’s office, his residence at Papampeta, his parents’ house at Indiranagar in Dharmavaram, and residences of his friend, his elder brother-in-law and younger brother-in-law at Papampeta.
During the raids, the ACB officials seized Rs 12 lakh and 174 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and also documents pertaining to disproportionate assets of the accused.
Authorities identified four houses – all were single-storey residential houses in Papampeta and Vidyuth Nagar in the name of his wife D. Lakshmi Devi. A vehicle and a motor cycle were also seized. The ACB officials seized agricultural land in Kamarupalli in Atmakur mandal and four house plots in Papampeta of Narayanapuram Grama Panchayat, closer to Anantapur Headquarters and also two house sites in Talupur in Atmakur mandal.
Lakshmi Narayana had joined as a typist in the office of Commissioner and Inspector General of Registration and Stamps and is presently working as sub-registrar grade-I at the joint sub-registrar’s office.
Movable and immovable disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.30 crore were seized. The official was arrested and shifted to Kurnool ACB court.
