6,000 security personnel for Kannur

Kozhikod: Election authorities have deployed some 6,000 security personnel for 1857 polling booths in Kannur, which includes 16 companies of central force comprising of CRPF, BSF, and RPF and 100 police personnel from Tamil Nadu and 250 from Karnataka.

Further, the service of excise, forest, marine enforcement, vigilance and regional transport officers have been put in place.

There are 250 sensitive booths having an additional strength of a senior civil police officer and four Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel each.

Also, there are 39 Maoist infested booths which fall under Aralam, Karikottakari, Kelakam, Peravoor, Kannavam, Ulikkal, Iritty, Payyavoor and Cherupuzha police station limits.

Two senior civil police officers plus four CAPF personnel have been assigned for each of these booths.

Webcasting facility has been arranged at 1841 booths and live streaming from 16. Kannur has 19,64,454 voters.

In Kozhikode, there are 2177 booths of which 12 will be operated entirely by women officers. Webcasting has been made at 1134 booths.

There are 13,15,355 voters in Kozhikode constituency and 12,86,250 voters in Vadakara. There is an increase of two lakh voters this time.
