Telangana: Tenant farmers are the ones who need sops

K. Chandrasekhar Rao to protect the interests of tenant farmers while implementing the investment subsidy scheme.

Hyderabad: Farmer associations have urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to protect the interests of tenant farmers while implementing the investment subsidy scheme. “Most farmers who commit suicide are tenant farmers. Owners give their land to tenant farmers for cultivation and settle elsewhere. Tenant farmers have no access to bank loans and have to depend on private moneylenders. They end up in losses every year due to uncertain weather and lack of minimum support price,” said Mr P. Srihari Rao, president, Telangana Rythu Rakshana Samiti.

Tenant farmers want the CM to conduct gram sabhas in villages to identify genuine farmers. They said if pattadars who do not take up farming are given the sop, they may use the money for non-agriculture purposes, defeating the idea behind the scheme.
