Bengaluru: No more protests near Town Hall?
Bengaluru: The police department could ban protests in front of Town Hall to avoid traffic jams, said Home Minister G. Parameshwar here on Saturday.
He was reacting to suggestions made by a section of intellectuals and activists, led by noted Kannada writer Prof. Baraguru Ramachandrappa and freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy.
Taking part in a breakfast meeting organised in honour of Mr Doreswamy, who celebrated his 99th birthday recently, Dr Parameshwar said, “Their advice is invaluable. I am certainly going to implement their suggestion as it is aimed at avoiding public inconvenience."
“The wise men of the city also advised me to take steps to revive peace committees at all police stations to contain communal tension,” he said.
‘Karaga should be a state fest’
The intellectuals said that the state government should take steps to celebrate Kadlekai Parishe, Halasuru Teru and Karaga Mahotsava as state festivals.
“Karaga is one of the finest examples of communal harmony. It should be a gala festival,” he said.
The state government is also thinking of reopening of iconic Puttanna Kanagal theatre, Dr Parameshwar said.
