Telangana plans PG medical counselling

The university, however, is yet to become operational and has no infrastructure as yet.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has refused to be part of the PG medical counselling to be conducted by AP. A day after the NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada released a separate counselling schedule for AP and TS, the TS government on Friday issued its own schedule for counselling, to be conducted by the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal. NTRUHS has been conducting joint counselling since bifurcation.

The disadvantage of separate counselling will be that students from the states will need to attend both sessions since 85 per cent seats will be offered to local students and the remaining 15 per cent will go to both locals and non-locals based on merit.

Following directions by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, health minister C. Laxma Reddy and Kaloji University vice-chancellor B. Karunakar Reddy issued the TS schedule in the Secretariat on Friday. The university, however, is yet to become operational and has no infrastructure as yet.

Though all colleges in Telangana are affiliated to NTRUHS, which conducts exams and award certificates, the Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association had demanded the TS government conduct its own counselling, alleging that TS students faced the risk of losing seats as there were chances of the NTRUHS manipulating counselling.
