LS polls: Ponnar, Anbumani, top guns of NDA file nominations

In Madurai, CPI(M) candidate and noted Tamil writer Su.Venkatesan filed his nomination papers with the district collector there.

Kanyakumari/Krishnagiri/Tiruchy/Salem: Key contestants from the NDA in Tamil Nadu led by AIADMK and including BJP and other parties, filed their nomination papers in their respective constituencies on Friday for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls.

In Kanyakumari, Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping and senior BJP leader, Pon Radhakrishnan filed his nominations for the Kanyakumari seat.

He filed his papers with the Kanyakumari district collector, Prashant N Wadenere after offering prayers at the Mandaikadu Bagavathi Amman temple and getting the blessings of elders, Godmen and Kottar diocese Parish priest, Rev Fr Nazreen Susai.

Three other candidates J Ebenezer of Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM), Jeyandrin of Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK), and C Thangappan of Tamil Nadu Mahatma Gandhi Katchi filed their nominations.

In South Chennai, sitting AIADMK MP Dr Jayavardhan, son of State minister D Jayakumar, filed his nomination papers at the corporation zonal office in Adyar.

In Krishnagiri, AIADMK veteran and former minister, K P Munusamy filed his papers before the district collector and district election officer there, while the PMK leader and sitting MP, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss filed his papers for the Dharmapuri seat at Dharmapuri collectorate on Friday, as part of the NDA.

In the Central districts, 18 candidates including four of NTK and one candidate of CPI(Marxist-Leninist) filed their nominations for Tiruchy, Karur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai and Chidambaram (R) Lok Sabha constituencies. Notable among them were NTK candidates, V Vinod for Tiruchy, PL Asaithambi (CPI-ML), Dr R L Karuppaiah of NTK for Karur seat and Ms. Shanthi of NTK for Perambalur seat.

In Madurai, CPI(M) candidate and noted Tamil writer Su.Venkatesan filed his nomination papers with the district collector there. Noted Transgender person, Bharathi Kannamma filed as an independent candidate for the Madurai Lok Sabha seat.

She drew the attention of the people by coming dressed like Goddess Meenakshi, riding a two-wheeler to file her papers.

In Salem, DMK candidate S R Parthiban filed his nomination papers with the district collector and district election officer, Dr Rohini Bhajubhakare. It coincided with DMK president M K Stalin addressing a huge election rally at Salem on Friday.

In Theni, Deputy Chief Minister, O. Pannerselvam, Mr. P. Ravindranath, filed his papers at the district collectorate there as an AIADMK candidate.
