TN introduces bill to amend tender act

According to the bill, the Act that enacted for transparency in the public procurement.

Chennai: Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam had introduced a bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act, 1998 in the state assembly on Thursday.

According to the bill, the Act that enacted for transparency in the public procurement and regulates the procedure in inviting and accepting tenders needs improvement.

While introducing the bill, O. Panneerselvam said that it is desired to provide for the procurement of certain services without following tender procedures by granting exemption.

“Consequent on the implementation of e-tendering in the phased manner, it is desired to publish tender bulletin in electronic mode,” said in the bill. The amendment would also provide purchase preference to the goods manufactured by government departments, public sector undertakings, and other such institutions, the bill explained.
