Thiruvananthapuram: Collegiate education director M. S. Jaya has sought a report from Government Sanskrit College principal K. Unnikrishnan on the row over CCTVs on campus with SFI activists there.
The issue began with a group of SFI activists allegedly manhandling those who were engaged to install cameras inside the campuses. Following this, the principal wrote a letter to SFI state secretary M. Vijin against the SFI activists for trying to disrupt the installation of CCTVs. He also submitted a complaint to the police against the SFI activists on the issue.
The principal argued that the decision to install cameras was following the consensus arrived at the college council. Moreover, there were complaints that anti-social elements had been entering the college campus during night hours.
However, SFI activists have denied the allegation that they had been opposing CCTV cameras. The problem arose following the “vindictive actions against the SFI activists in issues related to celebrating holi and that related to the tour in the college”, they argued.
The real reason for the differences of opinion between the principal and the SFI were the differences in the political ideology they professed. Sources said problems had started soon after Mr Unnikrishnan, an activist of Samskrita Prathista- nam, a pro Sangh Parivar organization, had taken over charge as principal of the college which is traditional bastion of the SFI.
