Motor Vehicles Department to seize vehicles with Puducherry number
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department has decided to seize all vehicles plying in Kerala with Puducherry registration. Joint transport commissioner Rajeev Puthalath said that as per available records there are about 2,000 vehicles owned by permanent residents of Kerala who have registered their vehicles in Puducherry to avail the reduced taxes there.
He said that though the government had announced an amnesty for such vehicles to pay the tax, it did not mean that the vehicles could frequently ply on state roads until then. Hence, we decided to go on enforcement.”
After the Motor Vehicles Department stared the enforcement against vehicles registered in Puducherry by residents of the state, about 200 vehicle owners so far paid the amount tax dues. The Crime Branch had earlier initiated cases against many prominent persons including MP Suresh Gopi and actor Fahad Fazil and Amala Paul in connection with registration of vehicles in Puducherry, allegedly forging address documents.
