Miryalguda education officer suspended for undue favours
Hyderabad: The Mandal Education Officer (MEO) of Miryalguda was suspended for negligence in discharging legitimate duties and misusing his powers by giving irregular deputations.
The Nalgonda District Education Officer suspended K. Champla Naik, following a host of allegations against him by teachers’ associations and student federations. These included payment of salaries to certain teachers despite their absence from duties for which he allegedly took bribe and lack of supervision over all schools in the mandal.
The suspension would be till conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him. Reportedly, the MEO had earlier been suspended for selling rice allocated for midday meals.
Telangana United Teachers Federation Nalgonda unit president Rajashekhar Reddy said, “The MEO was allegedly paying salaries to the teachers who had not been performing their duties since a year and was misusing government funds. Based on complaints by teachers and students, we have lodged a complaint against the teacher on March 5 to the DEO who initiated an inquiry and suspended the officer’’. The DEO also suspended teachers involved with the MEO in manipulating the attendance register and accepting salaries. Showcause notices were also served to a few teachers.
The MEO should be at Miryalaguda and should not leave the headquarters without obtaining the DEO’s permission and would be eligible to subsistence allowance only.
