Massive fire guts 150 huts at Madhapur
Hyderabad: Several families were suddenly rendered homeless when 150 huts were gutted in a massive fire at Madhapur on Thursday morning. According to fire officials, property damaged was worth around Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
The origin of the fire was suspected to be from one of the huts where wood was used for cooking. Officials confirmed that none was injured and of the 600 huts in the area, 150 were destroyed.
Following a call at 9.40 am, five fire tenders, three from Madhapur and one each from Kukatpally and Filmnagar, rushed to Patrika Nagar in Madhapur.
According to sources, construction workers had set up temporary houses there and it being a working day all of them were out.
“I had some cash concealed in the pillow cover and other valuables in my place of stay. Everything is now just ashes,” said Laxmi, a resident of the area who had gone for work during the mishap.
“The fire erupted from a stove nearby as a resident was cooking,” said Prakash, a resident, adding that people residing there were mainly from Bihar, Nalgonda and Warangal.
Locals informed Madhapur police on seeing the flames. About 50 police personnel, 30 firemen and the five fire tenders were pressed into service and doused the fire after an hour and a half.
