Keezhatoor agitation has CPM in a spot
KOZHIKODE: The agitation in a party village in its bastion of Kannur has been a headache for the CPM leadership as cadres started defying their diktats. Now there's no other go but to either bow to their stubbornness or to suppress the agitators of Keezhatoor. The confusion is visible in the contradictory statements of their leaders from the district on Thursday. State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the party was not against a flyover they wanted if the Union government spent money.
But its district unit is going ahead with a show of strength against Keezhatoor comrades who enjoys the support of greens and other fringe groups. While opponents will take out a march on Sunday to rebuild their venue the CPM workers burnt, the CPM plans their rally in support of the bypass on Saturday. CPM has already directed workers to march on the spot carrying as many party flags and mark its borders with them.
Vayalkkilikal suspects an attempt to trigger tension and force police to issue prohibitory orders to stop all programmes. However, Vayalkkilikal's leader Suresh Keezhatoor is confident that there will be no untoward incident. "We are not even a bit scared," he said. "Majority of farmers are with us." On the CPM's claim that only a few farmers with them, he said they were ready to prove otherwise. "We challenge CPM to prove that the majority of farmers are with them," he said.
