West Bengal: An 18-year-old newly wed from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district divorced her husband within two weeks of marriage after she discovered that he was impotent, according to a report on Mail Online.
The bride came to know of her husband’s shortcoming on the wedding night, after which she immediately decided to call off the marriage.
The girl’s family said that divorce was necessary because in case the marriage was pursued, the girl would have been accused of being barren.
“There have been cases in Murshidabad wherein girls have divorced their husbands immediately after marriage, but divorce on impotency ground is an isolated case,” said the girl.
The girl was helped by a local village organisation, which looks into such cases; she moved a local court where she won the case.
The local court has also asked the husband’s family to return the entire dowry of Rs 55,000 in cash.
