Taxi registrations rise as apps rule Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Registration of taxis is on the rise in the city. Compared to 5,937 cabs registered in 2014, it was 11,800 in 2015, a growth of 98.91 per cent. Experts said many now prefer cabs that are just a phone call away and are cheaper too.
“Uber and Ola have revolutionised transport. It is very convenient as the cab comes to the door step and the billing starts from there,” said Mr Siddharth Roy, a resident of Mehdipatnam.
Transport expert Dr G. Vasanth Kumar agreed cab services had become popular mainly because they could be hired conveniently. “In the absence of a mass transit system , these cab services have become successful. Now, the app-based firms must be monitored so that they are accountable,” he said.
Even to hire a driver for a day, it costs Rs 300 to Rs 600 depending upon the availability of the driver.
