Amidst terror attack, Narendra Modi to go to Brussels for India-EU summit
New Delhi: India strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Brussels on Tuesday, while making it clear Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s day-long visit to the Belgian capital on March 30 for the India-EU summit was still on schedule.
“News from Brussels is disturbing. The attacks are condemnable. Condo-lences to families of the deceased. May those injured recover quickly,” Prime Minister Modi said. “We condemn the attack in the strongest possible terms. We stand in solidarity with the people and government of Belgium. We offer our condolences to families of the victims. Terrorism is a global scourge,” MEA spokesman Vikas Swarup said in a statement.
On March 30, Mr Modi will also address a meeting of the Indian diaspora in Brussels during his visit. Besides the agenda of the India-EU summit, the menace of terrorism and global efforts to tackle it are expected to figure in the bilateral summit meeting the PM will hold with Belgian PM Charles Michel.
Brussels is Mr Modi’s first stop in his three-nation tour. From there he will travel to Washington for the Nuclear Security Summit, and later visit Saudi Arabia on his way home from the US.
