KITE: Digital magazines of 2K schools available online

The digital magazines provide an opportunity to everyone around the globe to see the digital contents of the schools.

Thiruvananthapuram: The digital magazines of around 2,000 schools are now available online as part of the Little KITES initiative of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE).

The magazines were prepared and published in schools from January 19 to 21 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the late writer Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer.

K. Anvar Sadath, vice-chairman and executive director of KITE School Wiki, told Deccan Chronicle that digital magazines created by schools could be viewed from the 'Digital Magazine' link on School Wiki portal (www.schoolwiki.in) or through the webportal www.dm18.kite.kerala.gov.in where they are arranged district- wise from Friday.

School Wiki portal, is the largest and most comprehensive content repository among all regional languages in India with over 15, 000 schools in the state featuring in it. It also contains the entire set of literary works of students at the state Kalolsavam from 2017 onwards. The digital magazines are categorised in the same model of the state Kalolsavam, said Mr Sadath.

In addition to the magazines appearing on the home page of School Wiki, they would also appear on the respective school's page, with the thumbnail image of their cover page.

Language computing is a major component in the Little KITES training activities. As part of this, students are taught Malayalam typing and word processing. Similarly, Raster-Vector image editing is also taught as part of graphic designing. It is the language computing activity which materialised in the form of digital magazine preparation in schools. Each school's magazine content is the collection of articles made by students and teachers, which are typed and given by the Little KITES members themselves, besides the nice layout.

The digital magazines provide an opportunity to everyone around the globe to see the digital contents of the schools, which otherwise would have been restricted to less numbers of printed materials and handwritten articles, which may be accessible to fewer number of readers.
