It is a fight between development and corrupt forces, says Amit Shah

For its part, the BJP had finalised its alliance with the ruling AIADMK and settled down to contest from five seats.

Ramnathapuram: The upcoming Lok Sabha election is crucial not only to the BJP but also to the entire nation as it signifies a contest between the BJP that stood for development and national progress and the Congress and its allies who are attempting to capture power to pursue their agenda of corruption, BJP president Amit Shah said while addressing a mammoth meeting here on Friday.

“The BJP is waging a war to make Narendra Modiji, Prime Minister again. So, the NDA candidates should ensure a victory of over 35 seats from Tamil Nadu and make him Prime Minister again by making it to the Parliament," Mr Shah said. Though the BJP may contest from five seats in Tamil Nadu - the number may be small, but it is the NDA candidates viz. the AIADMK, PMK, who are contesting from all the 40 seats to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister again. “So, in this election defeat the DMK and Congress,” he appealed to the people.

Mr Shah frontal attack on the DMK and Congress in the State comes a couple of days after the DMK and Congress finalised their seat-sharing exercise for the coming Lok Sabha elections under which the Rahul Gandhi-led party has been allocated 10 of the 40 seats including the lone Puducherry. For its part, the BJP had finalised its alliance with the ruling AIADMK and settled down to contest from five seats.

Pointing out to the string of corruption involving the Congress and the DMK, Mr Shah asked the people, “Do you think the DMK and the Congress who indulged in corruption up to the tune of Rs 12 lakh crore do good to the country? Can they who were involved in the 2 G scam, Adarsh scam and AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam, do good to the people of Tamil Nadu or the country?”

He dared DMK president M. K. Stalin and Congress president Rahul Gandhi to give an account of their contribution to Tamil Nadu’s development during the previous UPA regime and said they only have “accounts for corrup-tion.”

According to him, the DMK-Congress mean corruption whereas the BJP meant development. Mr. Shah maintained that Mr. Modi had allocated five times more funding for a string of infrastructure projects in the state.

‘Modi is a credible leader’ Hailing Modi as a “credible” leader sans corruption charges, Mr. Shah said the BJP-led government allotted over '5,42,000 crore to Tamil Nadu which is “five times (more than) the money given by UPA.” Taking potshots at opposition’s grand alliance, he said “they do not have a leader. I want to ask them, if you form a government, who will be the Prime Minister ?” “Shall I tell you who will be the PM?” he asked and replied, “it will be Mayawati on Monday, Akhilesh on Tuesday, Wednesday — Chandrababu, Thursday — Devegowda, Friday — Mamata didi, Saturday — Stalin, Sunday is an off for the country.”

Wondering if a country could be run by such an “incohesive coalition” of parties, he said they don’t have a leader with them. “We have a Prime Minister. NDA will win, and Narendra Modi will become the PM again,” he exuded confidence and stated that he was also confident that more than 35 MPs representing NDA from Tamil Nadu would be in the next Lok Sabha.

Earlier, upon his arrival at Madurai, AIADMK coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam along with senior party colleagues received Mr. Shah. Though it was described as a courtesy call, the leaders were said to have discussed the poll scenario and initiatives aimed at fine-tuning the election campaign, sources said.

‘Blood shed by jawans in Pulwama will not go in vain’ BJP President Amit Shah on Friday asserted that the bloodshed by the CRPF personnel in the recent Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir will not go in vain.

Stating that the NDA government had a “zero tolerance towards terrorism,” he said while addressing party workers here, the centre will give a fitting reply.

He also recalled the martyrdom of two CRPF jawans from Tamil Nadu who were among those killed in the dastardly attack days ago.

Mr. Shah was addressing BJP workers for the first time after his party clinched a poll deal with the ruling AIADMK on Tuesday.
