Fire at Brahmapuram plant

The operation went on late in the night also.

KOCHI: A major fire broke out at Brahmapuram waste treatment plant at around 4.30 p.m. on Friday. The fire was first spotted by employees of the plant.

The fire and rescue officials who rushed to the spot on an alert found it a major fire and difficult to extinguish as it had spread out widely. The operation went on late in the night also.

"More than 15 units from the district are currently at the spot. More units will reach the spot because the fire has turned uncontrollable," an official with the fire and rescue department said. It is also learnt that scarcity of water is also affecting the firefighters in dousing the fire.

Meanwhile, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain found the incident suspicious and said that a complaint will be lodged with the police regarding this.

Multiple fire incidents were reported at the plant after a major blaze in January this year. District collector Mohammed Y. Safirulla visited the spot.
