Bengaluru: More security for Vidwath's advocate

Beat policemen told to increase patrolling near Shyamsundar's house, office.

Bengaluru: A point book has been placed outside his office and the beat police have been told to increase patrolling near his home after advocate Shyamsundar, representing Vidwath in the case against Congress MLA, N A Haris’ son, Mohammad Nalapad Haris, sought police protection in the face of alleged threats.

The advocate, who has been appointed special prosecutor in the case, met city police commissioner on Friday seeking protection after he was allegedly threatened by Nalapad’s supporters during the hearing of the case in the 8th ACMM court on Wednesday.

When contacted, he said, “Till now, the police have placed a point book at my office and the beat police and Hoysala patrolling police have been told to keep vigil. But I have been given no gunman or bodyguard.”

Asked if he felt the need for a gunman or bodyguard, Mr Shyamsundar replied in the negative. “I am always out visiting courts. People don't have to wait near my house to attack me. But no matter what I will fight this case and see to it that the guilty are punished,” he asserted.

A senior police officer said the jurisdictional DCP had been directed to keep strict watch near the advocate’s house. “We are also discussing deploying policemen at his office and will take a call on this soon,” he assured.

Kannada actor, Shivarajkumar and former Minister, Sriramalu, meanwhile, visited Vidwath at the Mallya hospital and wished him speedy recovery. They also requested the government to ensure that justice was done and the guilty punished.
