Kerala budget session to begin with Governor's address today

As per the existing schedule, the Budget session will continue until March 16. The next session is likely to begin mid-April.

Thiruvananthapuram: The budget session of the state assembly beginning on Thursday would be stormy with the opposition planning to raise a host of issues, from goonda menace to rape of an actress.

The 15-day session will begin with Governor P. Sathasivam addressing the House on Thursday by 9 am.

Finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will present the budget for the next financial year on March 3.

The Opposition is also likely to raise a host of other issues like the death of engineering student Jishnu Prannoy and Kerala Law Academy land issue.

The opposition would be giving notice for adjournment motion on goonda violence on Thursday.

Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan told reporters that efforts would be made to complete all discussions on Budget and Vote on Account before May.

"There have been concerns over the delay in completing the debate on Budget as it was affecting the implementation of projects," he said.

As per the existing schedule, the Budget session will continue until March 16. The next session is likely to begin mid-April.

Meanwhile, the speaker also said that since the President had returned Plachimada Coca-Cola Victims Relief and Compensation Claims Special Tribunal Bill passed unanimously by the Kerala Assembly in 2011, the House may consider re-sending the Bill with modifications.
