Children Bank of India's notes from Delhi ATM; SBI launches probe
New Delhi: A man who had gone to withdraw money at an ATM in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar reportedly ended up getting four notes of Rs 2,000 with ‘Children Bank Of India’ written on them.
The police has started questioning a person who had been deployed on behalf of the bank to deposit cash in the ATM.
The matter has even caught the attention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying “how can a Prime Minister who can not even print notes properly run the country.
A senior SBI official said that the bank was investigating the matter. “This is a mischief by someone. We are trying to ascertain whether the person deputed by the agency, or hired by the bank, was involved in the mischief.”
It all began on February 6 when Rohit Kumar, who works as a customer care executive at a call centre in Chhatarpur, had gone to withdraw cash from the State Bank of India ATM in Sangam Vihar. He got four notes of '2,000 denomination which had ‘Churan Label’ written on them in place of the official watermark.
The notes also had ‘PK’ written on them in place of the RBI stamp and the top left corner had ‘Bharatiya Manoranjan Bank’ written instead of Reserve Bank of India.
He told the police that he had '8,425.85 in his account and wanted to withdraw '8,000 but the notes that were dispensed by the ATM bore the words, ‘I give 2000 coupons to the holder’. He also brought the matter to the notice of a security guard posted at the ATM and then approached the police.
“The man alleged that the notes withdrawn from the ATM situated at Tigri were fake. We also found them to be fake. The Investigating Officer of the case, a Delhi Police sub-inspector, also reached the spot and withdrew one note from his account. He too got fake notes,” said deputy commissioner of Police (South East) Romil Baaniya.
A closer look at the notes shows that expect the colour, there are very little similarities unlike a counterfeit note which looks identical.
