New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday a writ petition seeking a direction to register a First Information Report (FIR) on the basis of the suicide note of former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul leveling serious allegations of “bribery” against top judges of the apex court and lawyers in the case relating to President’s rule in the state in January 2016.
In a significant development, the Chief Justice of India, J.S. Khehar, decided to treat the letter by Dangwimsai Pul, wife of late Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul seeking his intervention to register an FIR and to order a CBI probe into the allegations as a petition.
Ms Pul had released the suicide note at a press conference in the capital last week and also the contents of her letter to the CJI seeking his intervention. On Tuesday night, the CJI passed an administrative order treating the letter as a writ petition (criminal) and it is to be heard on Thursday by a Bench of Justices A.K. Goel and Uday Lalit.
In her letter to the CJI Dangwimsai said: “Through this letter I am requesting you to grant permission for the registration of an FIR on the basis of the allegations of corruption contained in the suicide diary of my late husband.”
She said, “I am sure that you (Justice Khehar) will have the matter placed before the judges in accordance with the judgement in the Veeraswami case for consideration of my request.”
