Petition in Kerala High Court against pay revision

The Kerala economy has been growing at a rate at least one percent point lower than the national average.

Kochi: A petition has been filed before Kerala High Court against the Justice C. N. Ramachandran Nair Commission's pay revision package. The petitioner sought to quash the report of the commission as the same was submitted in violation of the terms of reference and disregarding facts.

Public Eye, an NGO based in Kochi, moved the court arguing that the decision to pass the pay revision package was taken considering the impending elections.

Kerala's infrastructure is severely stressed already, and massive investments are urgently required in vital sectors like roads, hospitals and housing, so the plan to implement the pay revision was arbitrary.

During the last seven years, the Kerala economy has been growing at a rate at least one percent point lower than the national average.

The petitioner sought a directive to follow the Central pattern of 10 years in revising salary and pension, and to put off the revision until July 1, 2019.

The petitioner also asked the state to put off all fresh appointments in the offices of departments as recommended by the 10th Pay Commission.
