JNU row, latest: HC asks police to file status report of probe in Kanhaiya case
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought a status report on JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar's bail plea. Kanhaiya was arrested on sedition charges and sent to judicial custody till March 2. The hearing will resume tomorrow, the court said.
Amid beefed up security in the High Court to avoid any untoward incidents like in the Patiala House court, Justice Pratibha Rani heard the bail plea.

11.10 am: Delhi High Court also agreed to hear another plea seeking directions to police to arrest five JNU students.
11.09 am: Supreme Court to consider plea for contempt action against 3 lawyers allegedly caught on camera boasting that they beat up Kanhaiya Kumar.
11.08 am: Delhi High Court agreed to give urgent hearing to a plea by two JNU students including Umar Khalid, seeking police protection prior to surrender before court
11.05 am: The High Court directed the Delhi Police to file a status report of the investigation in the case before tomorrow. Delhi Police opposed Kanhiya's bail plea in the High Court.
10.50 am: High Court seeks status report from Delhi Police on Kanhaiya Kumar's bail plea.
9.30 am: JNU student Umar Khalid and the four other students, against whom a lookout notice had been issued by the Delhi Police, moved the Delhi High Court seeking ample security before they surrender so that no untoward incident happens.
All five students, Umar Khalid Anant Prakash Narayan, Ashutosh Kumar, Rama Naga and Anirban Bhattacharya, who have been accused of sedition, returned to the campus on Sunday night.
