Hyderabad: No place to stand for commuters near NIMS

The road in front of Nims is always packed with dense traffic, and has been narrowed by the ongoing Metro Rail works.

Hyderabad: Three bus shelters adjacent to the entrance of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences were sealed a few days ago, and no one can explain who did it. The road in front of Nims is always packed with dense traffic, and has been narrowed by the ongoing Metro Rail works.

Commuters are forced to wait for buses on the busy road, endangering themselves and impeding the flow of traffic. Besides, buses are halting further ahead of the sealed bus stops, forcing commuters to run to get in. Asked about the sealed bus stop, an RTC official denied the corporation’s role and said it could have been done by the GHMC or the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

When contacted, senior officials from both the organisations said they had not done it. A senior GHMC official offered to find out who sealed the bus shelters.

Till the mystery is solved, and the bus shelters are reopened, commuters will have to stand under the blazing sun, amidst moving vehicles and scramble for buses. Ashok Chakravarthy, a commuter waiting at the bus stand, said, “I am not surprised. Ministers and bureaucrats travel in personal vehicles driven by chauffeurs. They do not bother about common folk like us.”
