Hyderabad: A Class X girl committed suicide in Nalgonda district after she was troubled by another student over romance. The girl, P. Bhargavi, 15, set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on her at her home on Monday, police said.
Police said that Bhargavi was studying at the Government Model School in Vemulapally. Venu, 13, a Class VIII student studying in the same school had been harassing her since six months over love.
When her parents, brought this to the school’s notice, the school immediately issued TC to him and he was dismissed. But that did not change Venu. Bhargavi shifted to Model School hostel and Venu joined a ZP high school in the same town.
A few days ago, Bhargavi came home as she was sick. Coming to know of this, Venu came to Bhargavi’s house on Sunday. Bhargavi’s uncle Pullaiah saw Venu and warned him to stay away. They also lodged a complaint with the police saying that Venu was harassing her. Police registered a case under the POCSO Act.
Meanwhile, while she was alone at home on Monday at around 9 am she committed suicide. “She poured kerosene on herself, set herself ablaze and died on the spot,” said Miryalguda inspector Ravinder.
Bhargavi’s parents are working as labourers in Maharashtra. She and her two younger sisters were staying with her grandmother. A case of abetment to suicide and the POCSO Act was registered by the police. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
