Hyderabad: The exercise to prepare one crore Covid-19 home isolation kits for distribution among people with Covid symptoms, even as the disease is running rampant in Telangana, has turned the indoor stadium at Victory Playground (VPG) here into a beehive of activity.
The first sight inside the stadium appears chaotic, with hundreds of cardboard cartons spread all over the floor with around 250 people, mostly young men and women, milling about, instructions being shouted out, and zippable plastic pouches being picked up one by one and the workers putting in each of them seven different medications, for a seven-day course.
Each home isolation kit contains Doxycycline (antibiotic/antiviral), paracetamol, levocetirizine, rantidine (for controlling acidity) and vitamin C, multivitamin and vitamin D tablets.
Work begins at dawn with the 250 odd people picking different medicines from each carton, put them in the pouches. This task of making kits has been going on for a week and shall continue for another 10 days, an official supervising the operation said.
They are chasing a target of readying two lakh plus kits everyday to ensure that they reach every nook and corner of the state in time. The cost of each kit works out to Rs 3.25 with the break-up being-Rs 1.20 for the plastic zip pouch, Rs 1.25 for the medicines and 0.80 paise towards labour charges for loading and unloading. Each worker is paid one rupee per kit.
This entire operation is supervised by a team of two pharmacists and six supervisors, who are non-pharmacists.
