Hyderabad: The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Bar Council of India on separate elections held to the Bar Councils of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state.
A bench of the apex court was dealing with pleas by advocates from both the Telugu states challenging the bar council elections held on June 29, last year, and requesting that the elections be declared illegal.
The petitioners submitted that in the guise of the Supreme Court’s earlier order to conduct elections to every Bar Council in the country, the BCI had conducted elections to the Telangana Bar Council even though it had not been constituted.
