Rs 1.37 lakh crore allotted for education boost, says Tamil Nadu CM
Chennai: A whopping Rs 1.37 lakh crore has been allotted for revolutionising the school education department since 2011 when the AIADMK government led by J. Jayalalithaa took over and quality of nearly 1,600 schools has been enhanced, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Monday.
In his address after inaugurating 'Amma Auditorium' at the Kandaswamy Naidu College run by the Pachaiyappa's Trust here, the Chief Minister said the government has set up eight arts and science colleges, three university constituent colleges and one polytechnic in Tamil Nadu after he assumed office in February last year.
“In the last six-seven years, Rs 1.37 lakh crore has been allotted to the school education department. The quality of 1,599 schools have been enhanced across the state,” he told the gathering.
Palaniswami also presided over the wedding of as many as 21 couples on the occasion. Listing out several welfare initiatives of the government led by late Jayalalithaa, he also referred to the ‘Thaalikku Thangam’, a popular financial assistance scheme for marriages of women beneficiaries.
During his speech, the Chief Minister recalled participation of the then Chief Minister C. N.Annadurai, an alumni of the Pachaiyappa's College in Aminjikarai, in the 125th year celebrations of the Pachaiyappa's Trust in 1968 and late Jayalalithaa in the 150th year celebrations of the trust. “I extend my congratulations as the Trust is all set to hold the 175th annual day this year,” the Chief Minister said.
