Coonoor: ‘White Tea’, a specialty tea produced by ‘Avataa Beverages’ of Billimalai estate near here, bagged the first prize at the North American Tea Conference. ‘Avataa’ producers said that the ‘white tea’ from Nilgiris is gaining popularity in Western countries.
The ‘Avataa White Tea’ has been awarded the first place and gold medal in the Indian tea category in the competition held at the 8th Annual North American Tea Conference held recently.
Mr. G. Udayakumar, director of ‘Avataa’ said that his company’s ‘white tea’ beat a similar brand of tea from Darjeeling in the run-up to the top place. “Avataa White Tea is raised at Billimalai Estate, Coonoor, at an elevation of 6,400 ft above mean sea level,” Mr. Udayakumar noted.
