Visakhapatnam: A silent but steady movement is taking shape in this region, demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, despite the Union government’s refusal.

Ever since the protest demanding Jallikattu at Marina Beach led by college youth and supported by every section of society, drew the nation’s attention, a parallel has been drawn in Andhra Pradesh to demand special category status, which will benefit the state. Even Tamil film actors putting aside their differences, had hit the streets and supported the Jallikattu movement.

There were “forwards” on social media platforms ever since the Marina protest was launched, asking Telugus to take inspiration from Tamils to press for Special Category Status. Lack of the spirit that was present in Tamils, had been also questioned in the messages that went viral among Telugus since last three days.
Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao also wrote to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to take inspiration from the jallikattu movement and demand special category status.

The digital posters read: “silent protest is better than violence” and “requesting all individuals to please maintain peace, be aware of the situations and act”.

The #APDemadsSpecial-Status was retweeted thousands of times and was trending on top on Twitter. The Facebook pages  were seen trending on top. Many of the youngsters extended their support for the protest and pledged their participation. Interestingly, many Telangana youths also extended their solidarity to the January 26 meet at RK beach.
