Woman wall set to test saffron tilt of SNDP

A prominent leader said the marriage of comfort with NDA facilitated the migration of BJP workers into key positions of the SNDP Yogam.

KOZHIKODE: The decision of the SNDP Yogam to join the women wall on January 1 has helped it fathom the depth of infiltration into rank and file by Sangh Parivar cadre, feel many in the organisation.

Though the BDJS, the political entity floated under the tutelage of the Yogam, headed by Vellappally Natesan, is still tied up in the NDA stable, Mr Natesan took a U-turn leaving his son Thushar Vellappally to lead the BDJS, campaigning against the entry of young women at Sabarimala along with BJP.

It was an embarrassment to the pro-Sangh elements in the BJP when Mr Natesan announced his support to the LDF sponsored 'wall'. The hasty turn put the rank and file of both the BDJS and the SNDP Yogam in trouble as sections of pro-Parivar followers started questioning leadership at all levels.

A prominent leader of SNDP who also duels as BDJS leader told DC that though brief, the marriage of comfort with NDA had facilitated the migration of BJP workers into key positions of the SNDP Yogam. "When our leader took a new turn on Sabarimala issue embarrassing us all, these pro-BJP men planted in key positions are opposing it tooth and nail," he said, adding that the many sincere workers also are confused in the recurring shifts in stand.

On the prolonged association with LDF, he said the long relationship with the CPM never affected the organisational structure of the SNDP Yogam as CPM cadres were directed not to engage in organisational activities of communal forums. "But the BJP had directed its workers to penetrate into the organisational structure," he said. "It will take a long time to realise whether the Sangh Parivar would swallow the SNDP Yogam or the teachings of Guru would save the organisation to keep off from the communal agenda and march on with a progressive vision keeping away from all political fronts of the state,” he opined.
