Chennai: The Madras high court has granted anticipatory bail to Ranvir Shah and Kiran Rao, who apprehended arrest in connection with the seizure of several idols from their residences by the Idol Wing-CID in the month of September.
Granting anticipatory bail to them, a division bench comprising Justices R.Mahadevan and P.D.Audikesavalu said they were inclined to grant anticipatory bail to them as the Idol Wing-CID could not even move an inch in the investigation or nab the suspects from September.
Therefore at least now the accused could appear before the Idol wing and co-operate with the investigation, the bench added.
The bench granted anticipatory bail to them on the condition that they should execute a bond for `1 lakh each with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the Special Court for idol theft cases in Kumbakonam.
Earlier,Ranvir Shah and Kiran Rao surrendered their passport as per the court directive.
They should appear before the investigating officer at 10.30 a.m. every day in the idol wing office at Tiruchy until further orders.
The Idol Wing CID was granted liberty to move the court for cancellation of bail, if the accused fails to cooperate or if the wing collects any incriminating evidence against them, the bench added.
