White topping in quick time, assures BBMP

The new roads will last for over 30 years, bear with temporary inconvenience, says BBMP chief.

Bengaluru: Having received brickbats for the traffic snarls created by the recent rush to white top city roads, BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad
did a recce of the ongoing road work accompanied by additional commissioner of traffic, Hitendra R on Thursday.

The team inspected Hosur Road, Anepalya and Adugodi and took feedback from commuters, who were vocal in their complaints about the white topping being done simultaneously on all roads and the absence of proper alternative roads to help them get to their destinations on time.

Mr Prasad assured them that the work would be completed as soon as possible and appealed to them to put up with the temporary inconvenience.

"White topped roads will last for over 30 years without maintenance and will be free of potholes. Keeping the future in mind, kindly bear with this temporary inconvenience," he pleaded.

While instructing officials to speed up the white topping of Hosur Road and Mysore Road , he said the work in Anepalya was in the final stages and the stretch would be thrown open to the public on December 28.

"And the one kilometer stretch from Hosur Road to the Silk Board junction will be thrown open to traffic within 15 days" he announced.
Mr Hithendra instructed the police to man the junctions to direct traffic and prevent jams, especially during peak hours.

"Wherever there is heavy traffic, the police will examine the black spots and take action to clear it," he promised.
