Hyderabad Water Board plans to sell Metro bottled water

The board is also expecting revenue by approving water connections to those who have applied.

Hyderabad: The water board is contemplating producing packaged water under the name ‘Metro’. The board spends Rs 2,000 crore to supplying water sachets/bottles to the public during public/state functions which it sources from third parties. It would thus be cheaper to produce its own brand. In another development, the board has decided to stop free tankers to urban slums after December-end.

Board managing director M. Dana Kishore told engineers during a meeting on Thursday that those achieving 100 per cent billing will be given an incentive. He said the board had introduced a new system for consumers to clear their bills, and has increased its revenue staff, and disputes before the Revenue Adalat will be resolved quickly. The board is also expecting revenue by approving water connections to those who have applied. He said the board was using solar power to cut energy bills.
