First state-level science fair begins at Warangal

Telangana preparing students to face competitive world: Kadiam Srihari

Warangal: The Telangana state-level Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition (JNNSMEE)-2017 began here at the Telangana State Social Welfare Residential School (Boys) at Madikonda on the outskirts of Warangal. Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari inaugurated the three-day science exhibition. Over 400 students and 30 teachers from across the state are participating in the science fair. This is the first state-level exhibition being held after the formation the Telangana state.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kadiam Srihari said it is the duty of the teachers to bring out the creativity of the students and widen their thinking abilities. This would lead to the student coming up with many inventions that would be useful to the country. “Most of the eminent personalities who contributed to the world of science came from rural backgrounds. Sir C.V. Raman, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Vikram Sarabhai must be taken as inspiration by today’s youth. Today the world looks up to India for launching satellites into space. In the same way, new inventions are being made every day in the fields of agriculture, dairy etc. To strengthen the industries in the country, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced ‘Make in India’. The state government is doing its best to provide the best education to the students by constructing new Gurukul schools in the state. We are preparing the students to face the competitive world with confidence,” he said.

ZP chairperson G. Padma, city mayor N. Narender, local MLA A. Ramesh, incharge collector Dr Preethi Meena encouraged the students to explore the various traits of the science and technology. State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) director B. Seshu Kumari said the exhibition is intended to entice the students to pursue science and mathematics. This would help them decide their future field of study.

“A total of 517 exhibits are being displayed by the students and teachers who have come from the 31 districts. We would select the best once and they would gain eligibility into the south India science fair to be held at Hyderabad from January 8 to 12,” she said.
