Andhra Pradesh: Zero effect, defect for global products

Visakhapatnam: The zero defect and zero effect scheme operated by Quality Council of India will create an ecosystem for quality and clean manufacturing, promoting the development of world-class products that would help expand markets for MSMEs said Pydah Krishna Prasad, Chairman — AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation. He was attending an Industry Awareness Programme on ZED (Zero Effect and Zero Defect) certification organised by AP Chambers in association with Quality Council of India. Elaborating further, K. Kumar Raja, Vice President, AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation, Visakhapatnam zone said ZED scheme is an integrated and holistic certification system.

He praised the initiatives of the Prime Minister for encouraging and giving a thrust of quality concern to manufacturers of Indian Industry. During the workshop, T.M. Iyer Venkateswar, the QCI trainer explained the key features and importance of ZED rating. He also said ZED offers a holistic change for compliance to a source of competitiveness.

Operationally, it is meant to evolve from a total dependency on the inspection of the final product to correct defects. The scheme is an extensive drive to create proper awareness in MSMEs about ZED manufacturing and motivate them for assessment of their enterprise and support them. After ZED is adopted, MSMEs can reduce wastage substantially, increase productivity, expand their market as IOPs, become vendors to CPSUs, have more IPRs and develop new products and processes.
